Spring Park is featured in the new Boy Scouts of America Merit Badge Series, Architecture and Landscape Architecture pamphlet. We at Ragan-Smith are proud of the Spring Park photographs in the Landscape Architecture section after developing the schematic master plan for the renovation and enhancement of this historic park in Tuscumbia, Alabama. Adjacent to the distinctive downtown, Spring Park is an important destination on the planned Spring Park/Keller walk. Ivy Green, the birthplace of Helen Keller, rests at the opposite end of the walk.
Ragan-Smith’s master plan provided better overall organization to the park, improving the aesthetics and vehicle and pedestrian circulation. The design enhanced several existing features including a large spring fed lake, parking areas, an open lawn, and a more functional use of existing historic structures. Added features included an amphitheater, concession area, playground, areas for display of public art, waterfall, water feature in the lake, and a pedestrian promenade. Most notably, the Ragan-Smith team worked with John Hogue Waterscapes to create what is now a regional attraction with programmed water shows.
